To draw a needle and thread through cloth is to sew.
If you are doing this now, you are sewing.
If you did this yesterday, you sewed.
If you have ever done this, you have sewn.
Sometimes ‘he sews’, but we usually think of ‘she sews’.
If you are a person who sews, however, you are not sewer.
